Artist's Statement
I’ve always had a love of photography. My high school instructor introduced me to the magic of the view finder, and it’s he whom I credit for my ‘gift of sight’. I have used this gift to capture images that tell compelling stories. Some tales are fun; others, deeply moving or thought provoking.
You can call me “old fashioned” because the majority of my work is done on film. (I still listen to vinyl records). Film was my first love, and I find that it holds qualities that can’t be found with digital photographs. Having said that, digital photography has broadened my experience and deepened my appreciation for the art and wonder of photography.
My specialty has been the Native American experience. As a member of the Santa Fe, New Mexico Art Community, I have had my body of work on display in local galleries. My work depicting the tradition of the Pow Wow was well received by the community.
My current projects are capturing images of the great Pacific Northwest. Being a newcomer to the area I hope to capitalize on my “gift” once again and uncover unique images and stories that surprise or startle those who’ve lived in the area for many years. |
